Better Off is a group of professionals at the top of their respective fields, working without vested interests to reverse the trend of increasing Type 2 diabetes diagnoses in Australia.
The project is an initiative of Outcomes Australia, a not-for-profit organisation for change, which is also responsible for the ShareLife Australia and Guiding Young Futures. Outcomes Australia prides itself on its work finding and implementing optimal solutions to challenges that impact on the entire Australian community.
At Better Off we have recognised the strain diabetes places on the health system, individuals and Australian society at large. If current trends continue, it is predicted that 80% of the adult population and 33% of children will be overweight or obese by 2025. Not only does this have consequences for individual health, wellbeing and quality of life, it is expected that it will cost Australian taxpayers $87.7billion in direct and indirect costs over the next ten years. There is a distinct need for action-oriented work towards quantum change in this space.
Our approach is outcomes-focused. When we advocate for change, we’re not just saying we need change; we’re saying exactly what the change should look like, demonstrating how it works, and creating a very clear path to ensure effective implementation all the way until it delivers the outcomes our community needs.
Our people are our power. A diverse network of high-value people with different professional backgrounds gives us access to a variety of skills and resources. This helps us break down silos and ensure the viability of a solution is examined from all angles. It also gives us access to the resources and networks required to implement game-changing proven solutions.
Independent of the not-for-profit sector, political influence and personal agendas, our teams bring renewed focus and drive reform in a way that government and many civil society organisations cannot.
